Chondroitin sulfate is found in everything from nematodes to humans, except plants, and plays many important physiological functions. Although the main chain structure of the polysaccharide is not complex, it is highly heterogeneous in terms of the degree of sulfation, the sulfate group and the distribution of the two different types of isomeruronic acid re-chains.
